Classes At Chelsea Yarns

Our classes started today and it was so exciting to see all the new students eager to learn in the Knitting Basics class.

Knitting Basics
Learn some knitting terminology, long tail cast on, knit and purl stitches, bind off.  Project will be a scarf.
Supplies Needed:  #8 short needles with light colored worsted weight yarn or
#15 short needles with chunky weight yarn, measuring tape, scissors – the beginnings of your tools bag.  Optional:  row counter
Fee: $60 (2) two-hour sessions

Knit Basics Plus
Refresh long-tail cast on, knit and purl stitches, bind off.  Learn to maneuver the yarn back and forth creating ribbing, stockinette stitch or stitch patterns, the importance of gauge, how to pick up a dropped stitch.  
Project can be the next level scarf.
Supplies Needed:  appropriate yarn and needles, tools bag
Fee:  $30 (1) two-hour session

Sweater Basics
Create a miniature cardigan.  Will cover increases, decreases, picking up stitches for neckline and bands, button holes, seaming.  There will be homework after each session
Supplies Needed:  #7 or #8 needles, worsted-weight yarn, Chibi needles, coilless safety pins, measuring tape, row counter, calculator, tools bag
Fee: $100 (4) two-hour sessions

Finishing
Learn to block your pieces, different seaming methods including the 3-needle bind off), picking up stitches for ribbing.
Supplies Needed:  #6 and #8 knitting needles, several colored worsted-weight yarn, tapestry or CHIBI needle, safety pins, tools bag, homework.
HOMEWORK:  With #8 needles and light-colored weight yarn, make the following:
One knitted swatch of 30 sts, stockinette stitch for 30 rows, bind off.
Using a different color, one knitted swatch of 30 sts, stockinette stitch for 25 rows, bind off.
Two knitted swatches left on needles or stitch holders:  30 sts in stockinette stitch for 30 rows.  DO NOT BIND OFF!

Make a knitted sampler with beads and expand your possibilities.

Crochet Basics
How to get started, what’s a chain, slip stitch, or a crab stitch also known as a reversed single crochet that makes a nice edging even on knitted items.  Try your hand at making basic granny squares to use up all those leftover yarns from your other projects.  
Supplies Needed:  size 8 (H) 5 mm crochet hooks, various colors of worsted-weight yarns   
Fee:  $30 (1) two-hour session

Not Your “Granny” Square Crochet Class
Learn how to create a granny square, which is the basis for for endless possibilities. 
In this class you will learn to crochet in the granny square style using a simple pattern. In this class you will learn how to start a granny square, add new colors. Also how to create a crochet flower and attach them to the granny square.

In this one-hour session, learn how the Magic Loop method can eliminate the need for double-pointed needles.
Project will be a baby cap in the round
Supplies Needed:  #5 or #6  40”circular needs, (1) 25 g ball of DK-weight yarn, Chibi needle

Clinic – Cables
In this one-hour session, create a two-stitch cable without a cable needle.  Then with a cable needle move onto the basic four-stitch cable and any of the others in the sampler.  This may be a fast paced session for some.
Supplies Needed:  #8 needles, worsted-weight yarn, cable needle, stitch markers, row counter.
Homework:  Create your sampler by casting on 24 sts and garter stitch for 2 rows.
Fee: $25 (1) one-hour session

Clinic – Short Rows
In this one-hour session, learn the most basic short row technique.  See sampler.
Supplies Needed:  #5 or #6 needles, 2 skeins of contrasting DK-weight yarn, row counter, tools bag

Private lessons:  $35 per hour


Class Policies
  • Classes must be paid in full at the time of registration in order to hold your spot.
  • Cancellations must be made three days prior to the start of the class. If you need to cancel a class, we will issue you a store credit for the amount paid. Unfortunately, cancellations made with fewer than three days’ notice result in a forfeiture of the class fee.
  • Classes have minimum enrollments; if these are not met, we reserve the right to cancel classes with 24 hours notice. Refunds for classes we cancel will be given in the method paid.
